Welcome arrow Matt
Personal Trainer

For 4 years I have been working within the fitness industry and have really enjoyed the wide range of people that I have trained with. I love to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

I started my personal training career in 2001 working at a local gym and at the same time studying at college for a BTEC National Diploma in Sports science. Within the first two years I also obtained my gym YMCA Level 2 qualification and my CSLA (Community Sports Leadership Award). I also attended the University of Greenwich in London, where I studied Sports Science. Within my time at Greenwich I worked with West Ham United Football Club and received my FA Level 2 coaching certificates.

The fitness industry has recognized that within our communities there are different attitudes towards health and fitness as well as gyms in general. We have those who regularly get involved with a local gym two or three times a week and feel very confident within the gym environment. There are others who know that they should be more active and maybe join a gym but have little motivation and have poor results from training on their own. Then there are those who find the gym environment intimidating and feel it’s for those who have the perfect body.

I have worked along side Eating Disorder Networks for the past 5 years and have gained a great deal of understanding around Eating Disorders and recognise the need within obesity for a programme that works around mind body and soul, looking at an individual as a whole person within this specialized field.

Over the years I have worked with people who are obese and understand the struggles of trying to overcome weight loss through exercise, their lack of confidence due to low self-esteem, bad body image and lack of motivation. All of these feelings are evident as the mountain of weight loss is too over whelming.

As you have seen from EDN’s BBC programme the involvement I had with Grant who had all the classic attitudes towards weigh loss, “I’ve done it so many times before, can I do it this time, I always fail”. Working with Grant and the EDN team, Grant has lost a massive 5 stone over the past 6 months, achieving his target weight.

Health and fitness is not just about going to the gym and losing weight, its about gaining knowledge and understanding around Mind, Body and Soul, looking at yourself as a whole person.

MIND  –    looking at unhealthy attitudes and understanding.

BODY  -   building blocks to a healthy body.

SOUL  -    establishing how we are motivated by feelings
