Richard’s Story

Richard was a mechanic leading a normal life until he was involved in a serious car accident that nearly cost him his life in 2001 Richard was left with some severe physical problems and after many operations over the years has finally reached the end of his ordeal. However, the accident left Richard with mental health issues and because of this he realised for the first time the lack of help and resources available within the Mental Health arena.

Richard heard about the valuable work that EDN does within his community and soon learnt of our struggle with successfully obtaining funding from trusts and funding bodies and obtaining suitable offices to work from.

Richard came to visit the team at EDN to find out more about what is involved in caring and supporting people with Eating Disorders and their carers. After hearing about the valuable work we do with our clients, Richard decided that he wanted to support us through sponsorship.

After thorough discussion with Richard, we felt the best way to use his sponsorship would be to fund new offices for EDN to operate from for the next two years.

What has Richard’s sponsorship done for EDN?

The generosity of Richard has enabled us:

•    To have a stable foundation to work from;
•    To establish ourselves within our local community at a prime grassroots location;
•    To build essential rooms in which we can provide private one-to-one sessions, group work and training facilities for our volunteers and workshops.

What this means for our clients

By obtaining new offices and refurbishing them it will provide
•    easy access to our services;
•    stability;
•    much needed drop-in facilities;
•    advice and information;
•    safe, friendly and warm environment.

Sincere Thanks

Throughout the past 6 years we have struggled to survive in the charity arena, which has become more like a dog-eat-dog business world every year. We have spent countless hours, effort and energy in writing funding bids and holding fundraising events. We are always so grateful when people see the work we are doing and see our passion for the cause and want to help.

Richard’s sponsorship came at a time when we were discussing the possibility of ending EDN and Caring Whispers. Never has a person’s story and experiences touched us in this way and Richard has shown true compassion, empathy and commitment to EDN.

The words ‘Thank You’ will never be enough to describe how we feel about Richard’s sponsorship. The only way we can show our true thanks is to keep giving hope to those that need it, refuge from the constant mental battle and tp keep alive the passion we have to help those who need it most.

Thank you, Richard x
